Resources

Welcome to the resources page. This is a collection of posts, pages, webinars, training courses and manuals that I have found helpful in my travels. I will do my best to keep it current, but if there is something you’ve found that isn’t listed here, get in touch and let me know!

Coding

Below you’ll find a small selection of general purpose resources that you might find useful if you are just getting started on your coding journey. For a more expansive list, head over to the Hacky Hours Resources page which is updated much more frequently. Are you a scientist who codes who’d be interested in coming along to Hacky Hours? Drop me a line via the contact page – we’d love to have you!

Productivity

Most people are ok at getting things done.. Are you interested in how to get things done better? Here are some of the resources that have guided (and continue to shape) my ongoing journey toward the most productive version of myself.

Tools

I have a whole series of posts on this site dedicated to the “Toolbox” I use in my everyday work where I cover the what’s, why’s and how’s of each tool. However, in case you’re not up for all that reading and detail, here are some of the core tools in my workflow. Note that many of these are either free/open-source or are listed as I find them to be excellent value for money – most importantly none of the links provided below are affiliate links. I genuinely do use and love these tools!

  • Project and information management: Notion
  • All things coding: VSCode
  • Reference manager: Zotero
  • Continuos cloud backup software: Backblaze
  • Illustration and graphic design: Inkscape
